What does a K9 security team provide?
A K9 guarding team pairs a handler with a security dog. Its role can include a visible deterrent and agreed patrol duties, planned around the site layout, access points and hours when protection is needed. The appropriate service depends on the risks and on people using the premises.
Dog teams should not be treated as a universal substitute for gatehouse officers, reception duties, cameras or a safe site perimeter. Public-facing duties and work around staff or contractors need careful coordination.
Choosing suitable cover
Share the site postcode, perimeter and access arrangements, existing security, required duties, start date and shift hours. Include any constraints such as active vehicle movements, staff working overnight or areas that cannot be accessed safely. Availability and mobilisation are confirmed for the proposed assignment.
Documents and operating arrangements
Ask for the individual licence, handler qualification, dog training and insurance records relevant to the work. Discuss patrol routes, induction, safe separation, dog welfare, reporting, handovers and escalation contacts before cover starts. Company accreditation should be checked separately from individual qualifications.
How quotations are prepared
The location, shifts, expected duration, duties and site conditions determine what cover can be proposed. Ask which duties and reports are included, whether any additional charges apply and how extensions or cancellations will be handled. No universal hourly rate or response time is promised here.
Hertfordshire and Watford enquiries
Our registered office is in Watford. See our Hertfordshire K9 security guidance for site access, handover and quotation requirements.
London cover
See our existing K9 security London page, construction security page and vacant property page.
Security dog handlers for warehouses and industrial yards
Loading bays, parked trailers, external stock and shared service roads create different patrol requirements. Tell us which areas remain active after hours and where the team can work safely around staff, drivers and contractors. Agree the route, authorised access and handover with the site manager.
Questions about K9 guarding
How much does a security dog handler cost?
The quotation depends on the site postcode, shifts, number of teams, duties and contract duration. Send those details so the proposal can identify the cover, included reporting and any additional charges.
Can I book night or weekend cover?
Include the nights, weekends or temporary shutdown dates you need. We assess suitable cover and confirm availability before booking.
Do I need a dog team or a static guard?
A dog-and-handler patrol may suit perimeter deterrence on a suitable site. Gatehouse administration and frequent contact with visitors may call for static guarding or a combined arrangement. Compare static guarding duties and read our K9 versus static guarding guide.
Security companies seeking additional cover can use our K9 subcontracting enquiry route.
